Open Enrollment runs through November 18
november 8 open enrollment deadlines
The Open Enrollment period for state-sponsored plans began on November 7 and has been shortened this year to two weeks.  Employees have until 6 p.m.  EST on November 18 to complete changes to their state- and UF-sponsored benefits plans.  Confirmation statements will be mailed the following week only to employees who made changes. 


Information sessions available regarding AvMed HMO, Long Term Disability

Insurance company representatives will be on campus this month to answer questions about changes related to the single HMO provider for Alachua County and select supplemental plans and to conduct information sessions on the Special Long Term Disability guarantee issue offered this year.   

Proposed leave regulation to be considered in December
The University of Florida has posted a regulation affecting leave benefits for faculty and staff.  The changes in faculty leave benefits are outlined below and will help pay for 3 percent raises for eligible faculty in January 2012. The proposed regulation can be found on the Regulations section of UF’s web site.

December Leave Cash-out period is November 11-24
TEAMS employees are eligible to cash out up to 16 hours of vacation leave—regardless of FTE—during the pay period of November 11 to 24, provided 40 hours of vacation leave remain on balance after the end of that pay period. If eligible, you will receive the cash-out payment in your December 2 paycheck.

UF community members care about each other and proactively reach out to help when needed. U Matter, We Care extends UF's caring culture by educating our community about signs and symptoms of distress, and providing those in distress with appropriate resources to receive professional, confidential assistance.

UF welcomes new director of Institutional Equity
and Diversity

In October, the Office of Human Resource Services welcomed David López as its new director of Institutional Equity and Diversity. López most recently served as the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ (DHS) director of Affirmative Action and Civil Rights Compliance. 

December deductions for state-sponsored insurance plans changed due to Open Enrollment
During the month of December, employees will receive three paychecks:  December 2, December 16, and December 30.  To accommodate this year’s late Open Enrollment schedule, State of Florida (People First) deductions will not be taken on the December 2 paycheck.  

Contribution limits for retirement plans increasing
for 2012

The IRS has announced that some retirement plan contribution limits for 2012 will increase slightly from the 2011 limits. Please review your contributions and consider starting or increasing your deferrals in order to maximize the tax savings.

Enrolled in a Health Investor Health plan?  
If you enroll in a Health Investor Health plan during Open Enrollment, don’t forget to establish your Health Savings Account (HSA).  Your HSA can be used to pay out-of-pocket expenses like your deductible and co-insurance now or for qualified medical expenses in the future.

Dependent documentation required for
state-sponsored plans

In the past year, due to new dependent and Social Security number requirements, People First must be compliant in maintaining appropriate dependent documentation on record. Employees who may have added dependents or made other changes during Open Enrollment should carefully review their confirmation statement for any outstanding documentation requests. 

Signing up for a state-sponsored supplemental plan?
Some of the supplemental plans offered during Open Enrollment require medical underwriting and/or a company application, and enrollment is subject to approval by the supplemental insurance carrier.
