Annual performance appraisals for TEAMS and USPS employees due March 31

appraisal This month, departments throughout campus begin to prepare for the annual performance appraisal period. The standard evaluation period for all USPS and TEAMS employees for this period is from March 1, 2012, through Feb. 28, 2013, with appraisals completed and signed by March 31, 2013. 

Double-deductions begin for nine- and ten-month employees with state-sponsored plans
UFSelect plan deductions unaffected

To ensure coverage for health, state life, optional and supplemental insurances offered through the state of Florida continues throughout the summer, double-deductions will be taken from nine- and ten-month employees’ paychecks beginning with the February 8 paycheck and continuing through May 3. Normal payroll deductions will resume in September.

Flex spending account grace period runs through
March 15

If you have not used all the money in your 2012 Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you still have time. The state’s grace period enables participants to continue to use medical and dependent care accounts for eligible expenses from January 1 through March 15 each calendar year. This annual grace period gives you more time to use your 2012 FSA pre-tax funds for qualified xpenses.

New University of Florida staff members can now complete New Employee Orientation (NEO) in the classroom or online! The two-part online New Employee Orientation features an exciting “New Employee Challenge” with videos and institutional highlights to provide a great introduction to UF and UF employment. GBAS program introduces credentialing process for business administrators

The University Controller’s Office and UF Training and Organizational Development are launching a new Gator Business Administrator Services (GBAS) credential to participants who effectively use the knowledge and opportunities offered by the GBAS program to benefit their unit, department, and/or college. This new credential is available to exempt TEAMS employees in a business administration-related role who analyze and/or make decisions on such topics as budgeting, forecasting, managing financial issues or grants, and hiring and other HR activities.

New research support tool available in myUFL

A new decision-making support tool designed for UF research faculty and affiliated support staff is now available in the myUFL system. With the information in the new tool—known as “myinvestiGator”—users can view budget and projection pages as well as project and transaction details.

Laboratory safety training now online

UF Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), in conjunction with UF Training and Organizational Development, now offers several laboratory safety courses online. The new courses focus on Chemical Hygiene Plans (CHPs) for laboratories as well as general laboratory safety information. These classes are tailored for anyone working in a laboratory (including students), laboratory managers or supervisors, and principle investigators (PIs).

Commitment Accounting/Effort Reporting User Group forming to share information

Beginning this month, a Commitment Accounting/Effort Reporting User Group will meet once each semester to discuss deadlines, articulate expectations, make suggestions for handling common mistakes and identify planning steps for the next semester.

Be alert to phone and email scams affecting campus

Tax time requires additional vigilance
Phishing can be of particular concern during tax time, when perpetrators may contact you for your information.

Recently, several phone and email “phishing” scams have infiltrated campus.  The term phishing refers to someone calling or emailing, masquerading as a trustworthy source, in an attempt to acquire information such as a user name, password, Social Security number or credit card information. 

Report work/life-event changes within 60 days

UF employees are responsible for reporting any qualifying status events to University Benefits or their Human Resource Services satellite office for benefits purposes within 60 calendar days of the event date.
