The UF Small Animal Veterinary Dermatology Service has an active research group working toward a greater understanding of the pathophysiology of canine atopic dermatitis and developing novel treatments for allergic skin diseases in dogs.

Dogs with allergic skin disease are being sought for a variety of clinical trials currently recruiting, including:

  • “Probiotics or Fecal Transplant as Treatment for Canine Atopic Dermatitis”
  • “Gut Microbiota in Healthy and Atopic Golden Retrievers and Australian Shepherds”
  • “Intradermal Immunotherapy with Actinomycetales Preparations as Treatment for Canine Atopic Dermatitis”
  • “Is Defective Secretion of Antimicrobial Peptides Associated with Reduced Killing Effects in Atopic Keratinocytes?”

More information on these trials can be found on the Small Animal Clinical Trials webpage: http://research.vetmed.ufl.edu/clinical-trials/small-animal/

If you have a dog with itchy allergic skin disease and are interested in joining a clinical trial to help develop new and better treatments for allergic skin disease in dogs, please contact clinical trials coordinator Mary Bohannon at mebohan@ufl.edu for a complimentary evaluation by the UF Small Animal Veterinary Dermatology Service.
