Do you have dependents covered by a state insurance plan? Be on the lookout for verification requests to ensure continued coverage

Last May, the Division of State Group Insurance (DSGI) began requesting a random sample of employees’ documents as part of a quality assurance review to confirm employees’ dependents, both newly added and existing, are eligible for insurance coverage. Effective Dec. 1, this audit will include all employees with dependents enrolled in state plans.

Employees receiving requests for dependent documentation must respond promptly and submit appropriate documentation as noted in the request. Failure to submit legible copies of required documents can result in termination of insurance coverage on the dependents in question.

An amnesty period will occur through Nov. 30, 2017. If you remove ineligible dependents from coverage before Dec. 1, 2017, you will be held harmless for past claims of ineligible dependents. You may remove ineligible dependents at any time by calling People First at 866-663-4735 or online during Open Enrollment through 6 p.m. EST on November 3, 2017.

If you have questions regarding dependent eligibility or required documentation, please review the Frequently Asked Questions or call DSGI at 850-921-4600.
