Department of Labor announces final rule updating federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that will impact the criteria used to determine eligibility for overtime. Effective Dec. 1, 2016, the salary threshold used to determine eligibility for overtime will be increased from $455 per week to $913 per week.


Discussions of climate survey results to continue in August

On June 14, the University of Florida released the results of the Faculty and Staff Climate Survey conducted in the fall of 2015. Town hall meetings led by Sue Rankin of Rankin & Associates, the consulting firm engaged to coordinate the survey, were held to discuss high-level summaries of the findings from a university-wide perspective. A report of the findings may also now be found on the survey website.


COMPASS to hold sessions designed to gather additional input from colleges

Over the past several months, members of the COMPASS-SIS project team have been gathering requirements for the new student information system. In addition, the team has been holding sessions to map the undergraduate, graduate and professional “student journey” and the various business processes of individual colleges and units.


Strategic Development Plan public forum slated for July 27

The University of Florida will host a public forum to solicit opinions and ideas from the UF and Gainesville community regarding UF’s Strategic Development Plan on Wednesday, July 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the GRU administration building’s multipurpose room at 301 SE 4th Ave.


Managers Cohort provides forum to discuss leadership and management issues while completing coursework

The Managers Cohort provides UF supervisors a unique opportunity to complete the “Managing at UF: The Supervisory Challenge” certificate with a cohort of peers. Participating in the cohort can provide managers with a forum in which to discuss issues related to leadership and management with like-minded leaders on campus.


myUFL password reset process to require phone verification beginning July 10

UF’s GatorLink Account Management system will be upgraded on July 10. The upgrade includes an extra layer of security, very similar to what banks and credit unions now use. Because of this security enhancement, the process for a password reset is changing.


UFIRST Awards system now available

The UFIRST Awards system is now live. All active awards have been converted and are now available for viewing and management. All new awards as well as modifications to awards requested (including no-cost extensions, supplements, PI changes, incremental funding, etc.) must now be processed in UFIRST.


Cost-per-print increase among changes coming to PrintSmart in August

Beginning Aug. 1, the cost-per-print under the PrintSmart program will increase 5 percent, from .0137 to .0144 for black and white and from .0470 to .0494 for color. However, UF will continue to realize significant savings even with this increase, with costs remaining below benchmarked costs for similar programs.


Employee Education Program accepting applications for the fall semester

The Employee Education Program (EEP) is a popular benefit available to eligible UF faculty and staff. The program provides tuition assistance for up to six credit hours of eligible college-level courses per semester.


Commencement moves to Phillips Center

This summer, all university-wide commencement ceremonies will be held in the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, due to ongoing renovation of the O’Connell Center.
