Material and supply fee requests now being accepted

Applications to establish or adjust material and supply fees as well as equipment use fees for the spring 2017 semester are now being accepted. All departmental requests should be submitted no later than Wednesday, Sept. 7, and dean’s approvals are due Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Graduate assistants, teaching assistants and research assistants who will meet the eligibility requirements for GatorGradCare Health Insurance and would like to participate for the 2016-17 academic year must enroll online.

Alachua County Public Schools offers free meals to county kids

During the summer months, any child 18 years old and younger can receive a free breakfast and lunch at one of 61 locations through the Free Summer Meals program. A new “Mobile Meal” pilot program also visits three neighborhoods, including Hidden Oaks, Tower Oaks and Linton Oaks Apartments.


Parent involvement in behavioral therapy for children proves beneficial

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, known as PCIT, at UF Health Medical Psychology is an empirically supported therapy designed for young children who are displaying disruptive behavior. Through weekly therapy sessions, parents and/or caregivers learn new strategies and skills for improving their child’s behavior.


Weekly yoga classes to be held in Ustler Hall Atrium through Aug. 16

Yoga classes for UF and UF Health employees will continue to be held in the Ustler Hall Atrium (second floor) from 12:15 to 1:00 pm on Tuesdays through Aug. 16. The class will return to the Florida Gym on Aug. 23.


Employee Assistance Program offers free individual and group support services

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides a wide range of services to employees. Services include individual employee evaluations, short-term therapy and referrals to community providers. Counseling sessions are confidential and address a myriad of situations.


Tickets for UFPA’s 25th Anniversary Season on sale July 23

Brian Jose, director of University of Florida Performing Arts (UFPA), recently announced the 2016-17 season, featuring more than 40 events from September through April. Jose said the celebration of UFPA’s 25th anniversary season is a reflection of both UFPA’s storied past and its future.


Creative B Movie Series brings science and art to FLMNH

Friday nights, July 8-29, the Florida Museum of Natural History and Creative B will host free movie screenings and explore the balance between science and art with an expert panel. “Wicked Plants” and the “Butterfly Rainforest” will be open to the public for extended hours until 7 p.m.


Florida Sea Grant to host free, ocean-themed film festival

Florida Sea Grant and Beneath the Waves will host an entirely ocean-related film festival, titled “Living on the Edge: Striking a Balance Between the Economy and the Environment,” July 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the J.W. Reitz Union Auditorium.
