Windows to Wellness 2017 employee health and wellness fair Jan. 25

Start 2017 off on the right foot! Attend Windows to Wellness 2017, a one-day event filled with activities, information and resources designed to support you in your wellness journey. Benefits-eligible UF and UF Health employees are invited to the Reitz Union’s Grand Ballroom between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, to learn more about the many resources and programs available to them.


Campus Spotlight: Kenneth Allen

At UF, Allen has been able to help the university’s emergency management procedures evolve and improve through a continual process. In recent years, Emergency Management has helped launch the GATORSAFE app for smartphones, help guide the university in establishing a Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and established the Take Action guidance – a brief list of the most important actions to take in a number of emergency scenarios.


COMPASS implements room-scheduling, provides “sneak peek”

COMPASS’s room-scheduling system is already providing room, event and resource scheduling services to the Levin College of Law, the Warrington College of Business, the six health-related colleges within the Health Science Center, and the O’Connell Center. The Reitz Union, the University Athletic Association and the University of Florida Foundation also use EMS now for scheduling services.

Renovated O’Connell Center opens, new website launched

The University of Florida’s Stephen C. O’Connell Center has launched a new website to support the opening of its newly renovated arena. The website features news about upcoming events, activities and information on the use of facilities within the new building.


UF President’s Council on Diversity to host UNC chief diversity officer in February

On Friday, Feb. 3, Rumay Alexander, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s interim chief diversity officer, will share her insights on leadership and advocacy for diversity and inclusive excellence in academia in a talk entitled “Inclusion, Legitimacy, Equity…They All Matter!”


Updated I-9 form mandatory beginning Jan. 22

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has published a new version of the Form I-9 that will be mandatory beginning Jan. 22. Until then, either version of the Form I-9 is acceptable. The updated version is linked from the UFHR Forms page. The GatorStart/electronic onboarding version will be updated before Jan. 21.


UF Dropbox for Education provides easy file sharing for faculty and staff

In May, 2016, UFIT launched the Dropbox for Faculty service. The service is now available to all faculty and staff to share files for academic, administrative, and research purposes using the same interface and functionalities everyone is accustomed to using.


Cornell scholar to discuss most highly publicized 20th century court battles

On Friday, Feb. 3 the University of Florida Office of the President, the Bob Graham Center for Public Service, and the Levin College of Law will present two talks by Cornell University Dean and American Studies Professor Glenn Altschuler, who will draw on his discussion of trials in a just-published book, Ten Great American Trials: Lessons in Advocacy.


Healthy habits and “Twelve Tweaks”—more ways to discover your path to well-being throughout 2017

At the Jan. 4 Wellness Wednesday talk, Dr. Tamara Warner, a clinical neuropsychologist at UF Health Shands Rehabilitation Hospital, shared a path for nurturing wellness, advising attendees to think of wellness as a cultivation that leads to harvest. According to Dr. Warner, goal setting fails when an individual views success as binary. For a different approach, Dr. Warner advised focusing less on goal setting and more on planting seeds aimed at growing healthy habits.
