Additional UF Faculty and Staff Climate Initiative action items announced

In February, the UF Faculty and Staff Climate Survey Working Group announced three areas on which it would focus to begin to address responses to the Fall 2015 Faculty-Staff Climate Survey and subsequent discussions held throughout 2016. The action items fell under the categories of Inclusiveness, Professional Advancement and Respect. This spring, a second wave of action items are being introduced to address issues of work-life integration and to provide the university community with examples of best practices to create a more inclusive environment.


UF expands lactation room offerings for nursing mothers

In an effort to better accommodate nursing mothers at UF, the university is expanding its current offering of lactation rooms around campus by adding three new facilities. UF Professor’s exploration of racist and anti-racist ideas wins National Book Award

His self-effacing laugh makes it clear that he has accepted his recent accolades with grace, but the professor of African-American history’s most recent book has catapulted him to new levels of notoriety in academia and beyond. The book, Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, won the 2016 National Book Award for nonfiction, became a New York Times bestseller, and was called the most ambitious book of 2016 by the Washington Post.

A call for applications for the 2017-18 UF Leadership Development programs sponsored by UF Training and Organizational Development and the Office of Human Resource Services is now underway, with an application deadline of May 1.


Brook Mercier appointed to lead Employee Relations

Brook Mercier has been appointed to serve as director of Employee Relations for UF Human Resources. Mercier has been serving in the role on an interim basis since mid-January and has been working in UFHR since 2006.


COMPASS: Progress Update on UF’s New Student Information System

Teams of staff from across campus are diligently working on the multi-project COMPASS Program. The projects are all focused on modernizing the way UF receives and interacts with student data, from a students’ initial applications, through their academic career, and continuing as alumni.


2016 Flex Spending Claims Deadline is April 18

Did you use all the money in your 2016 medical and childcare reimbursement accounts? Unused money remaining in your 2016 flexible spending account (FSA) is forfeited, so be sure to submit all claims for 2016 expenses before the final filing date of April 18.

Florida Museum to host science speed dating event April 12

Speed date a science subject! Join the Florida Museum for an evening of science and snacks April 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. At “Speed Science: Night at the Museum,” guests may ask scientists their most burning questions, one-on-one.
