Get ready for Benefits Open Enrollment!

As we reported last month, Open Enrollment for 2019 benefits will take place Oct. 15—Nov. 2. During this period, employees may elect or change state and UFSelect benefit plan elections through the appropriate online portals. Changes made during the upcoming Open Enrollment period are effective Jan. 1, 2019.

Here are ways you can prepare for Open Enrollment:

Stop by the Employee Benefits & Wellness Fair on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Champion’s Club at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. This is a great opportunity to learn more about available benefit plans and retirement options. Wellness vendors will also be there, giving attendees the opportunity to participate in wellness screenings and more. Flu shots will be available to employees providing their Gator 1 and valid insurance ID card. (Residents outside of Alachua County may attend a state benefits fair in their local area; however, UFSelect, GatorCare and wellness vendors will only be participating in UF’s fair in Gainesville. Check the DMS website closer to Open Enrollment for locations and dates.)

Explore your benefits options with ALEX, UF’s online virtual benefits counselor. Explore how ALEX can help you choose the best benefits options for you. You can also view this video from ALEX to learn what is changing this year:

Review information on the state’s myBenefits website and the UFHR Benefits website for insurance plan details, enrollment information and more. Instruction guides for how to enroll in state and UFSelect plans can be found here.

Watch for Open Enrollment packets from People First arriving by mail in mid-October, and keep an eye out for additional communications from UFHR. Be sure to read all materials promptly and carefully.

Beginning on Oct. 15, enroll and/or make your changes online. You can make benefit changes and/or elections between Oct. 15 and Nov. 2 (by 6 p.m. EST). Please note: The UF Benefits office will be closed for the UF Homecoming holiday on Friday, Nov. 2, but you can still make your changes online via the People First and/or myUFL systems on this day.

  • State of Florida plans: To make changes to or enroll in State of Florida plans via People First, have your People First user ID (PFID) ready. You can locate your PFID by logging in to the myUFL system and navigating to: Main Menu > My Self Service > Benefits > PFID & Beneficiary Info. People First passwords expire every 90 days. To reset, log onto the People First website and follow “Forgot Password” instructions. For further assistance, call 1-866-663-4735.
  • UFSelect plans: To make changes to or enroll in UFSelect plans, log in to the myUFL system and navigate to: Main Menu > My Self Service > Benefits > Benefits Enrollment.
