Tracking the fiery path of particles: UF leads combustion research

Armed with a $11 million cooperative agreement award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, or NNSA, researchers from UF’s Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, Purdue University and Georgia Tech are examining the physics of how particles and droplets burn as a group, a study that may lead to more efficient engines, better combustion in power plants and improved safety measures.

Anna-Lisa Paul, Ph.D., was named a recipient of the Southeastern Universities Research Association’s (SURA) 2025 Distinguished Scientist Award.

Sarah Mathias receives national recognition

Sarah Mathias was awarded the Betty Colden Memorial Lectureship by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities’ Council on Governmental Affairs.

UF research spending and awards at record high

University of Florida faculty conducted a record $1.33 billion in research in fiscal year 2025. Awards also reached a record $1.25 billion in 2025, including $818 million from the federal government, $102 million from the State of Florida and $140 million from philanthropic organizations.

Long-time UF/IFAS Extension agent inducted into NACAA

Regional Specialized Extension Agent Bob Hochmuth was inducted into the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) Hall of Fame.
