UF alumni from throughout the country will return to campus on Saturday, Feb. 20, to perform in and attend a special concert, “Bobby Shew Live,” featuring the UF Jazz Band and Gary Langford. Scott Wilson, head of UF’s Jazz program, says the reunion concert is a dream in the making. Planning for the concert, which will feature alumni and students playing alongside one another, began when he found a CD in the archives of a 1983 concert at UF featuring Bobby Shew and the UF Jazz Band.
Members of the 1983 band and Shew will return to the University Auditorium stage on Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. for a reunion concert that is free and open to the public. Donations are being accepted to the Bobby Shew Jazz/Lead Trumpet Scholarship. Those making a donation of $30 or more by Feb. 17 will receive the Bobby Shew Live 1983 CD. Those making donations of $50 or more will receive the CD and an invitation to a pre-concert toast with the artists, and donors of $100 or more will receive those items as well as an invitation to a post-concert dinner with the artists.
