What happens when drones enter the public sphere?

This Thursday, Nov. 12, the UF Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere will welcome Georgetown scholar Katherine Chandler for a presentation titled “Drone Publics: A Human-Made Machine World.” Chandler’s talk, which will be held at 4 p.m. via Zoom, will analyze how early experiments with drone aircrafts were enmeshed with race and colonialism. In her talk, Dr. Chandler will reconsider the machine-like world that unmanning upholds and demonstrate how contemporary drone warfare continues to overlay technological advances with moral superiority and political legitimacy on a global scale.

This event is part of the 2020-21 speaker series “Rethinking the Public Sphere Part II: Data and Democracy”
