Associate Provost Kwolek-Folland retirement celebration

UFHR recently celebrated the career of Associate Provost Angel Kwolek-Folland at a reception held at University House. UFHR Vice President Jodi Gentry presented the outgoing administrator, who has served in the Office of the Provost for 11 years, with a John Moran print titled “Day Begins Anew.”

A professor of history and women’s studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Kwolek-Folland came to UF in 2000 to assume the directorship of the Center for Women’s Studies and Gender Research, and in 2005, she became an associate dean in the college before joining the Provost’s Office in 2007. She earned her PhD in women’s history from the University of Minnesota in 1987 and taught at the University of Kansas for 13 years prior to coming to UF.

Kwolek-Folland has taught courses in history, women’s studies and American studies, and her research has focused on U.S. women’s history, women’s labor and business history, gender studies and material culture studies. Currently, she is researching international dimensions of contemporary gender rights categories. Her first book, Engendering Business: Men and Women in the Corporate Office, 1870-1930, was published in 1994 and won the 1995 Sierra Prize for best historical monograph from the Western Association of Women Historians. Her second book is Incorporating Women: A History of Women and Business in the United States.

A J. William Fulbright senior specialist candidate, Kwolek-Folland has worked with college and university departments outside the U.S. on research and program development as well as curricular transformation. In 2004, she received a Florida Blue Key Distinguished Faculty Award.
