UFHR undertakes comprehensive competency project

As part of its Strategic Commitment, and building on the first phase of the UF On Target project, UFHR began work in January on a comprehensive project to identify key competencies and success indicators for each job classification. The project aims to identify, for each job classification, the desired knowledge, skills and behaviors for employees to be successful in their current and future positions. Desired outcomes for the project include:

  • Create clear career paths for staff
  • Enhance recruitment efforts
  • Create training programs designed for specific job families
  • Create a more contemporary approach to performance management

UFHR will combine industry-standard classifications from a third-party system with data gleaned from direct surveys of UF employees to complete this overhaul of the classification system.

The HR job family will serve as the pilot group, and progress will be guided by a workgroup comprised of representatives from all areas within core HR. In the coming weeks, employees in the HR Job family classifications across campus will be surveyed to identify the top 10 competencies and proficiency level for their positions.
