Possible Aetna health insurance provider network changes

Published: August 6, 2019 9:00 am

A provider network consists of the doctors, other health care providers and the hospitals that a health insurance plan has contracted with to provide medical care to its members. These providers are known as “network providers” or “in-network providers.” Changes to network providers may occur throughout the year, so it is recommended that plan participants periodically confirm that their medical providers are still participating in their health insurance plan network. You may review your plan’s website or call the customer service telephone number on your health insurance ID card to confirm that your provider is still participating in your network.

Aetna is currently in contract negotiation with HCA Florida and if an agreement cannot be reached, 49 hospitals, including North Florida Regional Medical Center, will no longer be part of the Aetna provider network beginning Sept. 1, 2019. Aetna sent notification to members regarding the network change in late July. Negotiations are ongoing and retraction letters will be sent if an agreement is reached.

Participants receiving care or planning to receive care at HCA facilities should contact their medical provider immediately to discuss this potential change. To locate Aetna network providers, members may use the Provider Search on the Aetna website. Aetna’s Member Services representatives are also available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Members may call 877-858-6507 for assistance locating alternate in-network facilities or with questions regarding plan benefits and coverage.
