Register for summer training today; apply for Leadership Development programs by May 3

Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s time to register for the next set of course offerings from UF Training & Organizational Development. From courses on communication for managers and accountability in the workplace to emotional intelligence for effective leadership and how to inspire trust, the summer calendar has a variety of offerings to suit your professional development interests.

Also, in case you missed it in our last issue, the application period for UF’s Leadership Development programs—UF Academy and the Advanced Leadership for Academics and Professionals (ALAP) program—is open now through May 3. The Managing at UF program is also accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis for its 2019–2020 Managers Cohort.

Learn more about each of the programs below.

UF Academy
Entering its 17th year, the UF Academy was created for emerging leaders at our university. Designed for both exempt staff employees (up to and including the director level) and faculty, the UF Academy prepares employees for higher-level responsibilities at UF. The program meets over the course of the year, with an average monthly time commitment ranging from four to 12 hours.

Advanced Leadership for Academics and Professionals
Developed in cooperation with UF’s Office of the Provost and Faculty Senate, ALAP is intended for faculty and professionals in leadership positions as a way to support their ongoing development. The program includes two tracks—one for academic leaders and the other for professionals (assistant director and above). Approximately 20 faculty and professionals (10 per track) are selected each year via a competitive application process. The program meets eight times over the course of the academic year. The 2019–2020 schedule is available at http://hr.ufl.edu/leadership@uf/programs/alap/.

Managers Cohort: Managing at UF
Managers who may be newer to their roles have a unique opportunity to complete the Managing at UF: The Supervisory Challenge certificate with a cohort of peers. Participation in the cohort can provide managers with a forum to discuss issues related to leadership and management with like-minded leaders on campus. Space is limited and applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so those interested are encouraged to submit their application early.
