UF welcomes new Gators at New Faculty Orientation

UFHR, the Office of the Provost and administrators from throughout campus recently welcomed UF’s newest faculty — many hired as part of the Faculty 500 initiative — at the annual New Faculty Orientation held on Aug. 15 in Emerson Hall. The event is an opportunity for incoming faculty to learn more about the university, meet each other and gain information about resources and services that will help them have a successful start at UF and that will continue to support them throughout their career.

For the first time, this year’s cohort of incoming faculty will be supported throughout their transition with a new Experience UF program. Experience UF is an academic year-long program tailored for new faculty and professionals, especially those who have recently relocated to Gainesville. Each month, the program will host a social networking event on campus or within the Gainesville community at which faculty can meet campus and community leaders as well as colleagues from across all disciplines. To improve the experience for future faculty applicants and hiring committees, UF has also invested in Interfolio, a separate applicant tracking system exclusively for faculty and postdoctoral hiring. The “Careers at UF: Faculty and Postdocs” portal is currently under configuration, and the system will be available soon for use in the next academic hiring cycle. UFHR will provide more information on go-live and training in the weeks to come.

In the meantime, departments gearing up for 2018-19 faculty searches are encouraged to visit the Faculty Search Committee toolkit to access resources to support them throughout the hiring process.
