University Press of Florida announces new director

Romi Gutierrez has been named director of the University Press of Florida (UPF), effective Oct. 4.

Gutierrez has 15 years of experience in scholarly communication, academic publishing and management of complex initiatives. As director, she will provide leadership to refine strategic priorities to better meet the challenges facing university presses today, prepare for the challenges yet to come and seize the many opportunities available to the UPF.

Gutierrez has served as associate director and director of Sales and Marketing for the press for the past five years and before that as Marketing manager, as well as in other capacities since 2004. During this time, she has contributed daily to the leadership and the strategic vision of the press. Her long-running commitment to the UPF has given her deep and valuable insight into the operations of the press and industry trends.

Gutierrez contributes a strong business acumen and comes to this role with proven leadership skills as well as the respect of colleagues and peers necessary to lead the UPF and fulfill its mission of bringing scholarship to the world while prioritizing innovation and financial sustainability.
