Stop the Bleed is an initiative jointly created by the American College of Surgeons and the Hartford Consensus after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The campaign aims to educate bystanders, referred to as immediate responders, about bleeding control techniques. This skillset can be used in a variety of traumatic situations: violence or shootings in public spaces, industrial accidents, motor vehicle accidents, etc. This brief two-hour course demonstrates the proper use of hands, dressings and tourniquets in the control of trauma-induced hemorrhage.
