Faculty and staff to receive 1.5 percent salary increase effective Jan. 1
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the GAU pay increase amount as $390. The correct amount is $290.
Earlier this year, President Fuchs announced a salary increase plan for University of Florida faculty and staff. Under this program, faculty, postdoctoral associates and staff who were hired on or before June 30, 2016, will receive a 1.5 percent across-the-board salary increase effective Jan. 1, 2017.
Since the announcement of the salary increase plan, UF has engaged in negotiations with the United Faculty of Florida (UFF); Graduate Assistants United (GAU); the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME); and the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) regarding salary increases for members of each respective bargaining unit. Agreements between UF and GAU, UFF and AFSCME have been ratified. Negotiations with the PBA are still underway.
The agreement with UFF includes a 1.5 percent across-the-board increase effective Jan. 1, 2017. In addition, faculty members in non-tenure accruing appointments whose salary is less than $50,000 will receive an additional salary increase ranging from $1,500 to $5,000. Faculty members of PK Yonge whose salary is less than $50,000 will receive a $750 pay increase.
The agreement with GAU includes a $290 across-the-board pay increase and a $60 “fee relief” increase effective Jan. 1, 2017. In addition, the minimum GA stipend will increase from $13,000 to $15,000 effective Jan. 1, 2017.
The ratified agreement between UF and AFSCME provides an across-the-board 1.5 percent salary increase.
In October, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced the state minimum wage will increase five cents from $8.05 to $8.10 per hour. UF Human Resources will identify employees — including OPS, STAS, and FWSP — currently earning an hourly rate less than $8.05 per hour and increase their wage accordingly.
UFHR will implement the salary increases in late December. No action is required from departments or colleges. Raises will be available for review in myUFL on Jan. 3, 2017, and the raises will be reflected in employee paychecks on Friday, Jan. 20.
