How Bethune was selected to be first Black woman featured in National Statuary Hall

Florida made history last summer when a statue of Mary McLeod Bethune was installed in the National Statuary Hall collection. Bethune is the first Black woman citizen selected to represent a state at the U.S. Capitol. UF History Professor Paul Ortiz, Ph.D., and Yolanda Cash Jackson, a member of the statue committee and a UF alumna, talk about Bethune’s many accomplishments and her selection in a recent From Florida podcast.
