You can join in a local 5K run or a bike ride while benefiting great causes this month:

Charity bike ride benefits Al’z Place

Support Al’z Place, a day care center for people with Alzheimer’s disease and severe memory disorders, during the 10th annual Ride to Remember, a charity bike ride that takes place on April 23.

The trail starts in Boulware Springs Park in Gainesville, 3400 S.E. 15th Street or Flemington Community Park in Ocala, 18200 N. Hwy. 329. The scenic bike trails range from one to 100 miles in length.

Registration, which includes a t-shirt, is $40 online or by mail and $50 on the day of the event. Rest stops will be provided with drinks and snacks. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the ride begins at 9 a.m.

Race packet pick-up takes place at the Pedal Off Party at the Alachua County Senior Center, 5701 NW 34th St., between 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

Baby Gator Spring Scurry 5K

baby gator spring scurryCome out and support Baby Gator Child Development and Research Center at the University of Florida at the family fun 5K walk or run on Sunday, April 24. Children are invited to walk, bike, run, or ride in their stroller with their family.  The race will start at 8:30 a.m. and there will be a diaper dash at 9:30 for all little ones!

A t-shirt is included in the price of registration until April 11.  Online registration will end April 22, and onsite registration will be available on race day.  To enter, visit

Ninth Annual EHS STAR Autism Awareness 5K

On Saturday, April 30, at Boulware Springs Nature Park, Eastside High School Students Together for Autism Research (EHS STAR) will host an event benefitting autism research. The event is co-sponsored by the UF Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. Registration is at 8:00 a.m., followed by a fun run for kids at 9:00 a.m. The 5K begins at 9:15 a.m.
