Why student participation in the Census helps ensure federal and state funding

The University of Florida is joining with Alachua County and the City of Gainesville to increase awareness of the importance of the Census and to improve the accuracy of the numbers of students that should be counted as living in Alachua County.

Why is this so important? In the 2010 Census, Alachua County estimates that the population of UF and Santa Fe students was undercounted by more than 23,000 individuals. This lack of participation led to an estimated loss of $390,000,000 in federal and state funding over the last decade.

UF faculty and staff are encouraged to help promote awareness of the 2020 Census to the University of Florida community, especially to our students. To learn more, visit the Bob Graham Center website.
