Ron Anderson: Expanding UF ombuds program to include staff

It didn’t take Ron Anderson long after graduating from college to discover that the world of private industry might not be his oyster. Anderson returned to his alma mater, UF, in 1994, and worked his way through the ranks, eventually eventually serving as the UF Ombuds.


Campus Spotlight: Kenneth Allen

At UF, Allen has been able to help the university’s emergency management procedures evolve and improve through a continual process. In recent years, Emergency Management has helped launch the GATORSAFE app for smartphones, help guide the university in establishing a Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and established the Take Action guidance – a brief list of the most important actions to take in a number of emergency scenarios.


Renovated O’Connell Center opens, new website launched

The University of Florida’s Stephen C. O’Connell Center has launched a new website to support the opening of its newly renovated arena. The website features news about upcoming events, activities and information on the use of facilities within the new building.


Stacy Ellis—leading Baby Gator to even greater heights

Stacy Ellis, the Baby Gator Child Development and Research Centers’ new director, has observed first-hand the organization’s rapid expansion, first throughout her career as a Ph.D. student in the College of Education in the early 2000s, and later when she joined the centers as a teacher, then assistant director.


Ann Christiano: Championing the public interest through strategic communications

Christiano joined UF in 2010 as the Frank Karel Chair in Public Interest Communications, where she has developed the nation’s first public interest communication program, dedicated to using strategic communications to drive change. This spring, in partnership with UF Training and Organizational Development, Christiano and a team of communications professionals will launch a new Strategic Communications Academy designed for UF leaders and scholars.

Scott Nygren Scholars Studio opens at Library West

The Scott Nygren Scholars Studio, located in Rm. 212 of Library West, is an emerging community center for digital scholarship (DS) and digital humanities (DH) at the University of Florida. Open to faculty and graduate students, the Studio aims to support collaborative research and practice, offering the technology necessary for users to make new intellectual contributions in their fields.


Genetics Institute faculty honored

Dr. Nicholas Muzyczka was inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame for his work, while Nancy Denslow, Ph.D., has received a key award from an international professional group for her scientific achievements.

Chimay Anumba: Seeking even greater heights for DCP through collaboration and innovation

Chimay Anumba first visited the University of Florida in the fall of 2006 to undertake a nine-month sabbatical with the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management. Ten years later, his colleagues in the Rinker School recruited the internationally recognized scholar back to UF, this time to serve as dean of the College of Design, Planning and Construction. Having served for eight years as professor and chair of the department of architectural engineering at Penn State, he joined UF in August to assume his new role.
