The Global Excellence Awards celebrate excellence in global learning opportunities that support the UFIC Office of Global Learning’s mission.


Celebration honors service of longtime UF faculty and staff

UF Interim President Kent Fuchs, Ph.D., and Vice President for Human Resources Melissa Curry hosted a faculty and staff appreciation reception at the Earl and Christy Powell University House early this month. The event honored faculty and staff who celebrated 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 continuous years of service at UF in 2023.

Three UF faculty members honored with Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers

Three University of Florida faculty members recently received one of the highest honors bestowed upon scientists by the U.S. government, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).

“We are so proud of our esteemed researchers and the exceptional contributions they have made to their fields,” said Joe Glover, Ph.D., UF’s interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “The recognition highlights the important work being done at the University of Florida.”


UF Career Influencer Awards nominations due March 15

The UF Career Influencer Awards celebrate collaboration and innovation on the part of UF Career Connections Center partners who have had an exceptional impact on career development and career engagements during the preceding academic year.

Nominations, including self-nominations, are due March 15, and award winners will be announced during the annual Faculty & Staff Career Symposium on April 25.


Creating connections: A program coordinator’s award-winning debut

Anna Spaschak, Program Coordinator for Special Populations in the Division of Student Life’s Center for New Student and Family Programs, supports orientation and transition efforts with a focus on both UF Online and transfer student populations. This past spring, Spaschak won a University-Level Superior Accomplishment Award for Rookie of the Year.


An all-star advisor’s impact: Helping students find their path and purpose

Thomas Garvey, an academic advisor in the College of Journalism and Communications, or CJC, has worked for the University of Florida for four years. In addition to his advising duties, Garvey recently served as the primary presenter for the CJC’s presentations at First-Year Student Preview, where he was able to introduce students to available programs and opportunities. This past spring, Garvey won a University-Level Superior Accomplishment Award for Individual Employee Performance in the Student, Academic & Alumni Services category.


Serving smiles: A dental hygienist’s award-winning impact

Whitney Haley, a dental hygienist in the College of Dentistry’s Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Health Science, works at the UF satellite campus in Seminole and oversees the administration of the Special Day Foundation dental program, which helps bridge the gap in access to dental care for those with developmental disabilities. This past spring, Haley received a University-Level Superior Accomplishment Award for Individual Employee Performance in the Health Care & Physical Sciences category.


CTE awards nominations due Jan. 30

The CTE Awards acknowledge both the dedication of UF faculty the invaluable contributions of teaching support staff.


UF recognized by APLU for global learning impact

UF won a 2024 International Impact Award for Global Teaching & Learning, recognizing its innovative and impactful efforts to increase global learning.
