Our policies reflect our values

UF strives to provide a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff and students. These commitments are reflected in our policies as well as in the protections and support provided to those who need it.

The federal law known as the Drug-Free Workplace Act requires UF to maintain a drug-free workplace. UF is committed to providing a campus environment free from the abuse of alcohol and the illegal use of alcohol and drugs. To enhance this commitment, the university has adopted and implemented programs that seek to prevent the illicit use of drugs and the abuse of alcohol by university community members. To learn more, see UF’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy.

UF is also committed to maintaining a safe and comfortable workplace and academic environment. Sexual harassment of employees, students or visitors has no place at our university. UF’s Sexual Harassment Policy is designed to protect all members of the community from sexual harassment, and the responsibility of reporting incidents of sexual harassment rests with all members of the university community. In non-emergency situations, sexual harassment, sexual assault and/or any sexual misconduct should be reported via the university’s Title IX Information Form or by email or phone to the Title IX Office.

In addition, the university has established standards of conduct that cover every member of our community and will not tolerate violent acts, threats (direct or implied), unlawful harassment, verbal or physical abuse, stalking, intimidation and other disruptive behavior. Learn more about how UF responds to and seeks to prevent Workplace Violence, including a three-tier program that focuses on prevention, threat management and related behavioral issues, and crisis intervention.

UF has also been a tobacco-free campus since 2010, prohibiting tobacco use in all facilities and areas of the UF campus without exception. This includes common work areas, vehicles, restrooms, parking lots and other areas of the university campus, extending to 50 feet surrounding such facilities. The Tobacco-Free Campus policy applies to all faculty, staff, students, consultants, contractors and visitors.

While the preceding policies may be more widely known, all administrators should also be familiar with our university policy on preventing and reducing harm to children and vulnerable adults when they are in contact with university staff, workers, volunteers or students. You can learn more here.

If you have questions or concerns relating to these HR policies, please visit the UF Employee Relations website to learn more and to find contact information for the central Employee Relations or the Employee Relations Satellite Office that serves your area.
