Celebrating Martin Uman’s brilliant career at UF
It’s been a banner year for UF Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Martin A. Uman, Ph.D. In 2021, Uman celebrated his 50th year at UF, officially retired from the university and was named Emeritus Distinguished Professor by the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.
Considered by many to be one of the world’s leading experts on lightning physics and lightning protection, Uman holds seven patents, has earned $28 million in contracts and grants while at UF, and has authored seven books and 267 published articles in reviewed journals. Uman reminisces about his work and discusses what he calls a “series of interesting accidents” that led him into the lightning field in this interview.
