Women’s health is multi-faceted, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can feel overwhelming at times. In honor of National Women’s Health Month, we invite you to explore resources on everything from nutrition and fitness to preventative care and pregnancy to help you get started.  

Nutrition 

Nutrition plays a critical part in your overall well-being. It directly impacts energy levels, immune function and disease prevention. In women, adequate nutrients support hormonal balance, bone health and reproductive function.

A limited number of subscriptions to WeightWatchers, a personalized weight-loss app tailored to your lifestyle, remain available to UF faculty and staff, with sign-ups offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mental Health 

Mental well-being affects every aspect of life. It influences decision-making, relationships and physical health. Women often juggle multiple roles, so it is important to take steps to prevent or manage stress, anxiety and burnout. 

A limited number of subscriptions to Calm Health, which offers evidence-based programs and resources to strengthen the connection between mental and physical health, remain available to UF faculty and staff, with sign-ups offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Attend Women, Whole Health and the Workplace: A Mental Health Awareness Month Conversation on May 20 at 1 p.m. for tools and resources to support women’s unique health challenges, as well as strategies for building community and connection in the workplace and beyond.
  • Infertility can be filled with unpredictable ups and downs. In this program, explore practical tools to unwind anxiety, let go of self-blame and feel empowered within the unknowns of your infertility journey.
  • In this program designed for women military veterans, explore science-backed tools and practical advice for help strengthening relationships and managing stress.

The UF Employee Assistance Program offers someone to talk to and resources to consult whenever and wherever you need them. Make an appointment with one of our on-campus counselors to develop coping skills, self-care strategies and more. 

Explore the Resilience and Emotional Well-being Toolkit for support in navigating some of life’s most common challenges. Packed with practical tip cards and additional resources curated from various UF departments, this toolkit offers guidance on managing anger, regulating emotions, coping with anxiety, practicing self-care, and overcoming depression, among other essential topics. 


Fitness 

Regular physical activity enhances cardiovascular health, supports mental health and strengthens muscles and bones. 

UF faculty and staff can take advantage of several free in-person fitness classes, including cycling, yoga and Zumba, as well as live and pre-recorded workouts from GatorCare, Recsports and Arts in Medicine (AIM)

UF employees also have access to discounts at B3 Gym, CycleBar, Swamp City Fitness and more. Explore our GatorPerks program for a full list of health and wellness discounts


For Current and Expecting Mothers 

UF Health’s Childbirth and Newborn Education Class helps prepare expectant parents for labor, birth, the post-partum period and caring for the newborn. Learn more and register

UF Health’s Breastfeeding Class provides important information about the basics of breastfeeding. Learn more and register

Calm Health’s Nurturing Pregnancy and Postpartum Healing series provide support throughout the entire pregnancy and postpartum journey — helping lower stress, reduce anxiety and improve sleep.

  • Attend The New Parent Puzzle: Managing Stress, Mental Health and Maternal Well-Being on May 8 at 3 p.m. to learn about the psychological effects of parenthood along with tools and strategies to navigate stress and enhance emotional well-being.
  • This program will help you understand and cope with the difficult, and sometimes conflicting, feelings that can surface during pregnancy and in your baby’s first year.

Healthy Behaviors 

You should schedule a well-woman visit with your doctor or nurse every year. Well-woman visits include a full checkup with a focus on preventative care. Visit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website to learn more about well-woman visits. 

The United States healthcare system can be intimidating and confusing to maneuver. It is important to work on our health literacy so we can obtain, understand and utilize basic health information to make appropriate health decisions. Explore the Health Education and Literacy Program, or HELP, to increase your health literacy so you can become an active participant in your own health care. 

If you want to start adopting healthier habits but are not sure where to start, check out our Healthy Lifestyle Program, a series of six modules with each one focusing on a specific health topic — goal setting, physical activity, nutrition, better sleep, stress management and resilience.
