Advancing inclusive excellence at UF with Marsha McGriff
When Marsha McGriff, Ed.D., joined UF in December 2021 as its chief diversity officer and senior advisor to the president, she hit the ground running. Within her first month, McGriff announced a three-year plan to build inclusive excellence at the University of Florida. For the first phase of this plan, she engaged Damon Williams, Ph.D., chief catalyst for the Center for Strategic Diversity Leadership & Social Innovation and one of the architects of the inclusive excellence approach in higher education, to conduct an inclusive excellence strategic engagement with the university.
Williams’ team is currently completing a diversity, equity and inclusion inventory of UF as well as a peer institution benchmarking study this summer and will be conducting listening sessions with university stakeholders this fall. These efforts and initiatives are intended to lay the foundation for UF’s Institutional Inclusive Excellence Blueprint, which will be rolled out in spring 2023. McGriff also doubled the size of the Chief Diversity Office team with the hire of two new staff members.
