UF joins select company by reaching $1 billion in annual research spending

In a recent op-ed published in the Tampa Bay Times, UF Vice President for Research David Norton, Ph.D., discussed UF’s milestone of surpassing $1 billion in annual research spending for the first time, placing UF in the company of about 15 public universities in the U.S. that have achieved this mark. In the op-ed, Norton emphasized the impact that UF’s research has in advancing knowledge, creating new technologies and powering Florida’s economy.

“At the University of Florida, it is the impact of new discoveries that defines what our research is really all about,” said Norton. “The University of Florida’s $1 billion-a-year research enterprise is essential for Florida’s citizens and for its future economy. We are changing the lives of people for the better in our state, our nation and around the world.”
