Wondering how to help a colleague or student in distress?

At one time or another, most of us have experienced personal difficulties that have impacted the way we behave, our work habits or our overall well-being. As we approach the fall semester, in addition to showing empathy to those around us, it can also be helpful to know how to assist colleagues or students we recognize are experiencing distress.

If you would like guidance on how to help a colleague who is going through a difficult time, you’re encouraged to visit the Employees in Distress section of the UFHR website. As a reminder, a new Mental Health Services Access Line is available to help UF faculty and staff find emotional support when needed.

Faculty and staff also are encouraged to take the Kognito online training if they have not already done so. The training teaches techniques you can use to refer students to counseling services. The U Matter, We Care team may also be contacted at (352) 294-2273.
