In addition to being a double Gator and professor of applied physiology and kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Performance, Associate Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs Chris Hass, Ph.D., has built a career at the University of Florida marked by growth, purpose and impact.

Read on to learn how the UF Academy helped shape Hass’ leadership journey at UF.

What motivated you to participate in the UF Academy?

I had a growing interest in academic administration and wanted to test the waters and learn more about leadership development. I also wanted to learn more about the University of Florida.

What impact has the UF Academy had on you professionally and, if applicable, personally?

The UF Academy has helped me grow professionally by developing my leadership knowledge, skills and abilities. It gave me a vocabulary around leadership, greater in-depth knowledge of the University of Florida, a network of peers and peer mentors, and increased confidence in my ability to lead and to pursue academic administration.

Are there specific resources or connections you made during the program that you found most valuable and why?

I have found the leadership courses and toolkits to be great resources. The friends and leaders that I met during the program have also been great partners along my journey.

How have you applied what you learned in this program in your role as a leader?

I often refer back to the presentations and my notes from the UF Academy programming. I also frequently engage with individuals in my cohort for advice and support.

What would you tell a colleague who is considering applying to this program?

If you’re considering applying to the UF Academy, please do so. Higher Education is in desperate need of servant leaders who are committed to helping students, staff and faculty not only tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow, but who can also foster a culture of care and commitment to helping others be the best version of themselves.

The deadline to apply to the UF Academy program is this Friday, May 2.
